Concern for the life of Osman Omar Osman


The Norwegian Council for the Rights of the Kurdish People (RKR) wishes to express its deep concern for the Norwegian citizen Osman Omar Osman, currently on death row in Suleymany.

The pending execution violates human rights in the most serious way. RKR calls upon the Kurdish Regional Government to abolish the death penalty in law and practice, in this case and in general, once and for all. The question raised as to whether Osman Omar Osman was tortured during the interrogations is also of serious concern.

RKR supports the democratic development in Kurdistan-Iraq, and has great expectations for the Kurds to be a source for a democratic drive in the whole region. RKR therefore strongly urges the Kurdish authorities to release to observe international human rights in all respects.
